Nana Rashid

Nana Rashid – Danish great talent wins Best New Jazz Artist of the Year at Danish Music Awards for hugely impressive debut album, Music For Betty.
With the release of “Music for Betty” a new star has emerged on the Danish jazzscene. Which she won a“grammys” for at the Danish Music Awards Jazz 2023: Best New Jazz Artist of The Year and was nominated for Best Vocal Release of the year as well.
The unique mix of genres stands out as a clear new take on how modern Scandinavian vocal jazz can sound today. The music is a strong cocktail of the nordic jazztraditions melancholy, inflictions of neo-soul and blues with a use of scalding Nina Simone-tinged declamations.
“Music for Betty” is music made to heal our broken parts. The album title is referring to the Song “Poor Blue Betty” - as a reference to the parts we dismiss in ourself, but we still want so badly. Because they are what makes us whole.
“I will dare to call Music for Betty one of the absolute best Danish vocal jazz debut albums in several years”
year." 5/6 stars in Gaffa
The audience is met with an honesty and openness that clarifies precisely the invisible but palpable bond that binds people together as a kind of all-embracing empathy. It is both intense and soothing. The songs are full of the melancholy and thoughtfulness of the night hours and the music is performed with raw sincerity, spine-tingling stories about belonging and finding one's place in the world.

"It's a record that, in all its glory, is one of the best things I've heard from a Danish jazz singer in a very long time. It is both classic and contemporary. Big big recommendation from here.”
